Inexpensive Fluorescent Ballasts

Friday, July 10th, 2009

Tired of overpaying every time your business needs to replace fluorescent light ballast? It is a common misconception that you have to depend upon the manufacturer of the original lighting unit to buy a replacement lighting ballast. Not only will the manufacturer charge you an exorbitant rate, but they will also take their time in shipping the order out to you. There are a number of other options out there when you need to purchase replacement parts. You can find better service and cheaper prices if you know where to look.

Lighting technology has significantly improved over the years and fluorescent lighting has also improved. Lights bulbs last longer than they did in the past, but your lighting ballast will still require regular changing. A fluorescent light ballast should last you a few years depending upon the specific type of light that you have and how many hours a day your lights are turned on. Familiarize yourself with the lighting components that you have and always make sure that you have a skilled electrician on hand to perform parts replacement. This will ensure your safety and reduce the risk of any type of electrical fire that may occur from improper installation.

The internet is a great place to find lighting suppliers that can offer you replacement ballasts at competitive prices. You can find great deals on the specific fluorescent light ballast that you need. Make sure that you pay attention to extra charges such as shipping and handling that these retailers may tack on. Don’t be fooled by a retailer that has the lowest prices but then adds on extra additional fees at check out.

Many lighting suppliers will also offer a warranty with their products so it is important to keep all of the pertinent information regarding the lighting ballast that you buy. These fixtures should last you a specific amount of time and retailers should be willing to back up the life of their products.

Upgrade Instead

Before junking your old computer and purchasing a new one, you can save yourself quite a bit of money by deciding to look into upgrades instead of just buying new. There are a number of components on your computer that you can upgrade that will improve its performance. There are also options available for personalizing your computer’s settings. A skilled computer technician can offer you guidance on upgrading options and inform you on BIOS options, which can alter the settings on your computer and assist you in customizing them.

There are a number of computer upgrades available that will increase the performance of your computer. I owned a Compaq computer that was several years old. First, I looked into finding out if there was a Compaq upgrade that I could purchase to increase my storage capabilities. I found that I could purchase and install an external hard drive that could provide me with more storage space. The next Compaq upgrade that I needed would be one for memory. I found several memory upgrade options for my computer on-line and they were a lot cheaper than I thought that they would be. The final Compaq upgrade that I was looking for was a processor so that my games and other applications could run faster. I had to have this upgrade done by a professional, but it was well worth the cost.

I asked the computer technician if it were possible to alter my Compaq BIOS and to change some of the settings originally installed on the computer. He informed me that it is difficult to alter a Compaq BIOS and that only trained technicians have the resources available to perform this operation since they are permanently burned into your computer’s ROM chip. He also went over some Compaq BIOS beep codes and outlined what they meant incase my computer performed any of these beeps when I was starting it up.

I was very happy that I decided to take advantage of these upgrades instead of spending a ton of money on a new computer. The upgrades were relatively cheap and I learned a lot about my computer and its applications in the process. I would recommend looking into upgrading options for your existing computer before purchasing new. But don’t wait until your computer stops functioning before looking into upgrading. If your computer’s performance begins to decline, ask a technician for advice on improving its operation.
